Its full steam ahead for the construction phase of Hanovers Regional Recreation Complex.
Waterloo company Melloul Blamey Construction has the job.
It’s 8.8 million dollar quote was lowest of six tenders.
The 8.8 million is also well within the 10.5 million dollars budgeted for the project.
Parks and Recreation Facilities Manager Dale Steinhoff says this will leave more money for the not-in-contract items such as signage, parking lot development, landscaping, a sound system, furnishings and amenities.
Site preparations will begin next week with the coliseum demolition scheduled to take place the last week of June.
Steinhoff says they will try to minimize the impact on the adjacent Aquatic Centre as well as impact to the neighbouring residential area to the north of the Coliseum.
Demolition will not result in considerable landfill requirements, as the large majority of materials will be recycled and or re-used off site.
The Regional Recreation Complex will feature an NHL size ice pad and seat up to 15 hundred people.
The entire project should be complete by August of 2010.
