The area around the Mildmay Carrick arena is open again after police investigated a hazardous material in the air.
South Bruce OPP re-opened the area around 10:30 this morning.
It was closed for 13 hours after police first investigated a disturbance at the Mildmay pool around 9:30 last night.
Several pool employees, police officers, a firefighter and paramedic showed signs of a reaction after being in contact with a vehicle in the arena parking lot and a man who appeared to have chemical burns.
Constable Chris Cossitt says a total of 11 people were taken to the Walkerton hospital, treated and released.
He describes their symptons as irritation to the throat and eyes, scratchy skin, and tightness of the chest.
The OPP Haz Mat team secured the area and cleared it of hazardous conditions.
It is now safe again for residents.
But Police still don’t know what they were dealing with — and the cause of the suspected chemical is currently under investigation.
23 year old Jeremy Halk of Brockton has been charged with Break and Enter.
Police are also asking for witnesses to come forward.
Two schools — Sacred Heart Junior Public School and Mildmay Carrick — were also closed for the day as a precaution.
Both schools will open tomorrow.
