Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will meet with Prime Minister Harper today to discuss possible changes to the latest economic stimulus update.
One of the big things Ignatieff will be grilling Harper on, is how the Tories plan to reform the Employment Insurance program.
Huron Bruce Conservative MP Ben Lobb tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, the Liberals want to lower the criteria to be eligible for EI.
He says this is not the way to go because then you end up paying out more in EI funds – because more people are depending on it.
Lobb says what the Harper government is concerned with, is having fewer people on EI and using that money to re-train people for the work force.
Ignatieff also wants more detail on economic-stimulus spending and plans
for dealing with the medical isotope shortage.
Without this information, Ignatieff has warned he may be forced to bring down the minority Conservative government by voting with the N-D-P and the Bloc in a key confidence vote on Friday.
