A unique race & fundraiser begins this afternoon at 1 PM in Tobermory with an event called ” Blaze, The Niagara Escarpment. “
Two relay teams comprised of 10 runners on each team will run a perpetual relay along the Niagara Escarpment from Tobermory to Niagara Falls.
Jack van Dorp is a member of one of the teams and he admits he’s excited about the event on many levels.
A resident of the area, van Dorp has always visualized running the Niagara Escarpment.
Over the course of the 5 day event, van Dorp will run 7 times with his distance ranging from 15 to 26 kilometres per relay leg.
Training for the race has been ongoing since March for van Dorp who acknowledges running on the trails and escaprment roads will be a challenge
From a fundraising standpoint, money generated by the event will be directed to Muscular Dystrophy Canada & the United Mitochondrial ( My-toe-kon-dree-al ) Disease Foundation.
