It looks like it’s going to be a great summer in Saugeen Shores.
The general manager of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce Joanne Robbins says her survey of private cottage rentals is showing a busy time in the area.
Robbins says for the prime weeks of mid-July to early August over 90 per cent of the cottage space has been rented out.
She says for the 10-weeks of summer which is just getting underway we’re at 78 per cent capacity.
Robbins says that means, people are choosing to vacation in their own backyards and Bruce and Grey counties should be able to cash in on that.
She says these numbers mean a good summer for the area and that should spill over into what she calls the shoulder season as well–those summer-like weeks after the Labour Day weekend.
In addition, Robbins says the area campsites are reporting a booming business about to unfold this summer with many areas already booked to capacity on the summer’s holiday weekends.
Although no study has been done, it’s expected this summer there will be hundreds of thousands if not millions of new dollars added to the economy because of the tourists.
