The Kincardine Lions Club is chipping in to pay for a new place for the town’s young residents to play.
A 40 thousand dollar cheque has been presented to the municipality to cover the costs of the new 140 thousand dollar playground near the Davidson Centre.
Lions Club President Ross Thompson says 30 thousand dollars comes from a Trillium Foundation grant the club received and the other 10 thousand from local fundraising.
Thompson says they were able to figure out how much the project would cost after estimates were developed as part of the Trillium application process.
He says community response towards the playground has been great since it opened just after the Victoria Day long weekend and has actually exceeded the Lion’s expectations.
Thompson says at a recent meeting of the club, they received letters from children who are thankful for a new place to play outside.
A grand opening barbecue for the new playground will be held today from 1 PM to 3 PM.
