Hanover is taking time today to remember its fallen war heroes.
A special ‘Decoration Day’ Ceremony is taking place at 2 PM this afternoon at the Hanover Cemetery.
The memorial service includes a Royal Canadian Legion parade, a short prayer service and the laying of wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers and veterans.
Mayor Kathi Maskell strongly encourages the public to attend the event.
She calls it a great way to pay homage to those who have served our country.
Maskell says Decoration Day provides residents with another opportunity rather than just Remembrance Day to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Hanover has a section of its cemetery reserved strictly for soldiers and veterans.
Decoration Day is also a day when many tend to the graves of their own loved ones, by planting flowers or laying wreaths.
