Wasaga Beach is getting 12 OPP officers this summer.
Mayor Cal Patterson says that’s much better than the 18 he says the town was forced to have last year.
Patterson says the new OPP detachment commander, Kevin Hunter, met with council about the concerns and came up with the number of 12.
Mayor Patterson says if it’s a hot summer and the officers are kept busy, then the numbers will be looked at and perhaps bumped up to say 15 next year.
The new officers will start June 15th.
The town will be responsible for paying just over half of the 436 thousand dollar cost.
The other half will be coming from government funding.
