The federal and provincial governments are spending some money in our area.
Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis made a stop in Wasaga Beach this afternoon to announce the federal government is giving almost 709 thousand dollars ($708,908) for infrastructure projects.
Guergis tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the amount will be matched by the province and the town.
The money will go towards the 45th Street widening and the MacIntyre Creek Rehabilitation project which will help the town repair part of the trail system and three bridges that were damaged in recent flooding.
Guergis was also in Collingwood earlier today to announce the federal government is giving 2 million dollars towards the downtown revitalization project.
She says the provincial government will chip in the same amount and so will the town and the BIA.
There was some speculation that money was coming to cover the outdoor skating rink in Collingwood — but Guergis says she will likely be making an announcement about money for rinks in the area possibly sometime next week.
Guergis also announced today 7.6 million dollars to go towards the new Blue Mountain town hall and the wastewater project in Scraggliest.
Meanwhile, the Liberals are threatening a summer election because they didn’t like Prime Minister Harper’s report card on stimulus spending announced yesterday.
Guergis says she knows for a fact people in Simcoe Grey do not want another election.
She adds the Liberals will be held accountable if they do call an election.
