Town staff in Saugeen Shores are doing the paperwork for a road reconstruction project.
Council has granted approval for the 300 thousand dollar project to reconstruct Wellington Street from Fraser Court to Woodland Drive to go to tender.
The water table is high in the neighbourhood and residential properties have been affected several times since the spring of 2008.
The drainage system in the area is designed for a once every-two-year high rainfall event lasting one hour, but that amount has been exceeded.
To eliminate the ponds that often develop on the street, staff are suggesting drainage improvements be made that will lead to an overall lower water table.
The project was not planned to take place this year, but Mayor Mike Smith says they’re speeding up the process.
He hopes it solves the water issues and improves the street at the same time.
Smith says there have been savings on tendered costs for other paving projects this year, and Engineering Director Dave Burnside believes those savings can be used to finance the reconstruction.
