A controversial issue takes centre stage at Collingwood Council tonight.
Council will be getting an update from staff on the new proposed commercial vehicle by-law.
The town’s current by-law states no commercial vehicles are allowed in residential areas.
But Collingwood has been looking at updating the by-law to allow trucks of certain height and weight to park in home driveways.
Jackie King and her husband Chris own Gas King and used to park their extended cab truck in their laneway until a neighbour complained.
Jackie tells us they decided at the time to park their truck on a lot in Nottawa that they have to pay to park in.
She says they also had to buy a second vehicle to drive to and from the truck.
King says this has been costing them 20 thousand dollars a year which is tough for any small business to bear.
So the Kings started circulating a petition on Wednesday, May 27th and a week and a day later had 570 signatures.
Jackie King is making a deputation to council tonight about the petition.
She says she plans to tell council that most of the people in the community she’s spoken to support a new by-law.
