The challenges and changes facing Atomic Energy of Canada Limited have Bruce Power staff answering questions about that company’s place in the nuclear industry.
The federal government recently announced it plans to privatize some or all of AECL.
Bruce Power Manager of Government Relations Ross Lamont says it’s too early to tell if Bruce Power could end up having a greater role to play in the industry because of the proposed changes.
Lamont says if something does come up, Bruce Power will go public.
As for the current situation in Ottawa involving secret AECL documents mistakenly left recently at a TV — Lamont says Bruce Power hasn’t seen any of the details in them.
The reactor at Chalk River that produces medical isotopes is currently shutdown due to a heavy water leak, leading to concerns of a shortage.
Lamont says Bruce Power isn’t under any pressure to get into the isotope business because their reactors aren’t able to produce them.
