This weekend is a time to celebrate heritage in Owen Sound, as the city holds its doors open event.
19 different buildings will open their doors for public viewing and they range from grand old Victorian homes to modern energy efficient building to artists studios.
Sandy Parks is the Heritage Co ordinator for Owen Sound and says last years there were about 65 hundred visits to all the sites on the tour.
She says this is an excellent way to promote the cities heritage and understand what a diverse number of buildings that exist in Owen Sound.
Parks says her personal favourite building on this years tour is the Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum because of the remarkable stain glass windows, marble work and ornate plaster moldings near the ceilings.
She says another building new to the tour this year is the former Christian Science Society building on 1st Avenue West.
Parks says it was originally a Congregational Church when it was build in 1871, but more importantly served as one of the first branches of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union who used the building for more than 40 years.
She says one of he newer buildings on this years tour is the brand new environmentally friendly Grey Bruce Health Unit building on the Owen Sound waterfront.
