Bruce County Council is offering its two cents on the province’s new Long Term Care Homes Act.
Bruce County is throwing its support behind the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors (OANHSS) and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).
Both groups have sent responses to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care outlining concerns about the new Long Term Care Homes Act.
The new regulations call for increased administrative work and documentation, and that has Bruce County concerned about how patient care could be affected.
Eleanor MacEwen — the Administrator of Brucelea Haven home in Walkerton — says the goal of the changes is better quality of care, resident safety, and increased transparency.
However, she says meet those goals — administrative work will cost more, and improvements to resident care won’t be possible unless funding also increases.
She notes the two associations have asked for increased funding to cover the costs of the increased workload.
