A group of 32 Owen Sound high school students will be on hand for the 65th anniversary of the D Day landing in France tomorrow.
Dave Alexander is a history teacher at OSCVI and will lead the group to Juno Beach for the ceremony that will also see two of the students lay a wreath at the memorial.
He says Owen Sound Legion Branch 6 donated the wreath to be laid at the Juno Beach Memorial.
He says besides attending the D Day event, the group plans to visit Vimy Ridge and Dieppe.
Student Garrett Mitchell says this trip will be especially important for him as military service in his family extends back several generations.
He also says he knows the sacrifice that Canadian soldiers made on the beaches of Normandy and respects what they did for this country.
Alexander says he is especially looking forward to the visit to Vimi Ridge which he says is one of the most impressive World War one monuments you can find in France.
He believes that sometimes the best way to find out what being a Canadian is all about is to visit a site like Vimy and some of the other battlefields in Europe where Canadians fought and in many cases died.
