Taking a swing against crime.
Over 100 people took part in the 17th annual Crimestoppers Golf Tournament at the Chippewa Golf and Country Club in Southampton yesterday.
15 thousand dollars was raised at the event which is a major fundraiser for Crimestoppers.
The evening portion featured a steak dinner, a live and silent auction, and Hall of Fame defenseman Brad Park as the guest speaker.
South Bruce O-P-P Constable and Grey Bruce Crimestoppers Coordinator Dean Rutherford says the money raised goes towards the operation of the program.
Rutherford says the Crimestoppers program offers the community to be part of the crime fighting initiative.
He says it allows them to be the ears and the eyes for the police in fighting crime.
Rutherford says there are hundreds of charity golf tournaments and only so many dollars out there.
He says it is great to see that the community has continued to support the golf tournament.
Rutherford says it is fantastic when you can get someone like Brad Park to do this event.
He says he remembers Park as a member of Team Canada in the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series.
He says he was a great hockey player but unfortunately was playing under the shadow of another Hall of Fame defenseman — Bobby Orr.
