The Mayor of Southgate thinks too much attention is being paid towards the automotive sector and not enough on the farming community.
Don Lewis wants the McGuinty government to do more to help farmers.
Lewis feels the McGuinty government is ignoring the agricultural industry in favour of helping bail out the 3 big automakers.
He told Grey County Council at their regular meeting yesterday that there are farmers especially in his municipality that have spent months waiting for approval on loans to help with their tile drainage.
Lewis says the agricultural industry is moving ahead and is making money but the Province is being tardy in supporting existing farm programs.
He would like to see the same amount of effort being made towards these programs as it is towards the automobile industry.
Lewis says it does not cost the government any additional money to approve the loans to farmers.
He says the loans would make a big difference to the farmer in helping them with their tile drainage knowing that they have that financial cushion.
He wonders why can’t Premier Dalton McGuinty or any minister give a rubber stamp to the loans.
Lewis says the Province should be focusing on industries that are making money and helping the economy.
He says variety is the spice of life but boredom pays the bills.
He is urging the Province to get moving on the boring stuff rather than thinking about other “grandiose” projects.
