Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson is headed to Queen’s Park this afternoon in hopes of having the highway 26 re-alignment project re-started.
Patterson says he’s been pushing for a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation for some time, and found out late last week he’s been given some time.
He says he’s not sure whether he’ll meet with the minister, a deputy minister but says he’s glad to at least get an audience.
Work on the widened highway was stopped right after the provincial election in 2003.
New plans for the highway were revealed last November.
At the time, officials with the Ministry of Transportation said the project might re-start this fall, with a possible completion date in 2011.
The new design included roundabouts where Highway 26 currently meets Mosley Street and Poplar Sideroad.
Patterson says the sooner the road is finished, the better, as three commercial developments at Mosley and 26 are waiting for the completion of the highway to go ahead.
He says those new developments would mean more commercial taxes for Wasaga Beach and jobs.
