Students at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton are holding their own Relay for Life event tonight.
The 12 hour event to raise money for cancer research begins at 7 PM.
Student Aven Hoffarth says their Student Council President got the idea of holding their own event after her grandmother died of Cancer.
She says everyone fed off her excitement and decided to organize the event.
Hoffarth says she was just as excited in being asked to join the committee in helping raise money for a very good cause.
Hoffarth says their goal is to raise 40 thousand dollars.
Hoffarth says setting a high goal motivates them to raise as much money as possible and she believes they can reach the goal.
There will be a luminary ceremony prior to the start of tonight’s event.
Hoffarth says they will sell candles for 5 dollars and the candle will be lit and placed in a paper bag on the track as a memoir for anyone who has been touched by a loved one with cancer.
