The organizing committee for the Owen Sound portion of the Olympic Torch Run is reminding area residents of an approaching deadline.
The deadline for the Coca-Cola Promotion to carry the Olympic Torch on the Owen Sound segment is May 31st.
Coca-Cola, along with the Royal Bank of Canada, are both staging promotions that allow lucky residents to carry the Olympic Torch as part of the journey to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.
The Olympic Torch will be in Owen Sound on Monday December 28th.
Citizens who would like to carry the torch during the Owen Sound event can apply to through Coca-Cola at www.icoke.ca
The site to apply through the Royal Bank Promotion is www.rbc.com/carrythetorch
Owen Sound Torch Run Media Chair John Prettie stresses the application process is open to all area residents, not just the citizens of Owen Sound.
Prettie says applicants must be 13 years of age or older by December 28th of this year.
He states the run is not physically demanding, taking some 300 metres to complete, and there’s no stipulation that someone must run; walking is also an option.
