Student enrolment continues to decline in the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says the School Board is projecting a 2.2 percent decline in enrolment for the upcoming school year. (2009-2010)
This represents the loss of 80 students.
And while this may not seem like a lot to some, given the small size of the School population at 38 hundred.
Colton calls the number significant.
She says the enrolment decline will have a negative impact on the Catholic Board’s government funding.
This is because student enrolment numbers are closely tied to government grant dollars.
Colton doesn’t expect the enrolment decline trend to change anytime soon.
Even so Colton says there are no plans to undertake any school accommodation reviews or issue any staff layoffs.
She says upcoming staff attrition will eliminate the need to hand out any pink slips.
