Saugeen Central School in Port Elgin in partnership with police have taken their measures to assure the safety of their playground.
As we reported last week, police reported that safety razor blazes were found near the playground equipment of the school on May 12th.
Since then school principal Liz MacPherson has sent a letter home to parents of the students assuring them they are monitoring the situation very closely.
MacPherson says for one thing the school now has 24-hour surveillance equipment installed and Saugeen Shores police have indicated they will beef up their patrol of the area during off-school hours.
She says in addition to the cameras, the head custodian at the school is now monitoring the playground area with a metal detector, in addition to his regular duties on the grounds.
MacPherson says the evening custodial staff has also been instructed to inspect the playground each evening.
MacPherson says the bottom line is that parents can be assured that everything is being done to keep the playground safe from foreign objects and to apprehend those responsible for the act.
Fortunately to date there have been no serious injuries as a result of the razor blades near the playground equipment.
If anyone sees anything suspicious at Saugeen Central School on Catherine Street, you are asked to call Saugeen Shores Police.
