Safe Boating Week is about to end — but Police say safe boating practises should last all summer.
Police Services across the region are giving people to a number of reminders before heading out on their boat or vessel.
You should never mix alcohol with boating.
Always wear a like jacket or personal floatation device.
Check weather conditions before heading out and always let others know your plans — just in case.
OPP Constable Dave Meyer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News wearing a life jacket is the most important tip.
Meyer says the messages of Safe Boating Week particularly hit home for us because of all of the water in our region.
Meyer feels boaters are getting the message about safe practises but he feels there is still a lot of room to improvement.
Meyer adds in the majority of fatal boating incidents — persons have drowned because they are not wearing a life jacket.
