Some inspirational words for a ratepayers group in Collingwood.
VOTE Collingwood held their General Meeting last night and the guest speaker was Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson.
He spoke about how a citizens group needs to think about everyone’s needs, and not just their own.
Mathieson also spoke about various projects in Stratford, and how they can relate to Collingwood.
Stratford has partnered with the University of Waterloo to create a campus in the city in 2011, and has also partnered with businesses for a research park at that new campus. Those companies include RIesearch in Motion.
Mathieson says it’s very important for municipalities to realize that an insular view doesn’t work, and regions have to come together, and work on bettering the area instead.
VOTE Collingwood’s Chair, Karen Poshtar says the group’s current membership is 200, and its mandate for the next municipal election will be to understand each candidates’ platform.
Poshtar says VOTE doesn’t make suggestions, and the group is filled with people who have a wide range of opinions.
Poshtar says that means they usually end up with a very balanced opinion as a whole.
