Former Green party candidate Shane Jolley doesn’t feel having a parachute candidate in the riding of Bruce Grey Owen Sound will help the party.
Federal leader Elizabeth May is said to be considering the local riding for the next election after two good showings in 2006 and 2007 by Jolley and later Dick Hibma.
May last ran against Peter Mackay in Nova Scotia and lost, and back in 2006 lost a close vote in London.
Jolley says whether it is Elizabeth May or someone else who is parachuting into a riding, they don’t have a feel for the local issues and are at a disadvantage.
However, the former Green candidate says if May was unopposed for the nomination he would have no problem supporting her.
Jolley is currently the deputy leader of the Ontario Green party.
He also runs a business in downtown Owen Sound.
