The Grey County Historical Society’s annual dinner will be a busy one this year.
Board of Directors member Aly Boltman says they will be handing out the Society’s first ever heritage award.
Boltman says Robert and Douglas Shouldice of Shallow Lake are being recognized for their restoration of the King Edward Hotel.
Boltman says the castle-like structure was built in 1900 as a temperance hotel to serve workers in the local cement industry.
She says over the years it has fallen into great disrepair and was considered an eyesore.
The Shouldice brothers bought the building in 2006 and have returned it to its original state while turning it into a condominium unit.
Also featured at the dinner will be guest speaker Andrew Armitage.
Boltman says the local historian’s topic will be ‘Old Grey County: 40 Years of Adventures in the Queen’s Bush’.
Boltman says she doesn’t want to give away the details, but people should expect an extremely interactive evening with Andrew.
The Grey County Historical Society’s 42nd annual dinner will be held at the Meaford Curling Club tonight.
