Some west end Walkerton businesses are fed up with the parking problems in that area.
Julia MacDonald of Happy Feet, Lisa Weishar of Inner Beauty, and Michelle Rich of Beautiful Beginnings want Brockton to address their parking issues.
Those issues include the lack of safe public parking for their employees and customers.
MacDonald says the current parking by-law would see them get 30 dollar tickets for parking for more than 2 hours on the street.
But she says their customers usually stay beyond that and the parking tickets will drive them away.
MacDonald says there is plenty of space behind the businesses for parking but it is not well maintained and is not properly lit.
She says the lot — located next to Larry Fritzs Animal Recycling Plant — has big pot holes and there is a vulgar odour coming from the plant.
She compares the lot to a barn yard.
MacDonald wonders why the Municipality did not come up with the money to pave the lot and provide sufficient lighting since it is on municipal property.
She says there is a number of paving businesses around who could do the job and wonders why the money from parking infractions isnt going towards improving the parking lots.
MacDonald says there are other businesses in the West end that are having similar problems but chose not to deal with it.
She is worried that their customers are taking their business to places like Hanover and they are threatening to do the same.
Council has agreed to issue the businesses temporary parking permits allowing their customers to park on the street for up to 4 hours until the Municipality can come up with a permanent solution.
While the 3 are satisfied with the decision, MacDonald says they would have rather had the lights installed at the lot to improve safety in that area since they are open well into the evening.
