Leg power is rolling a Heart and Stroke Foundation fundraiser through Grey Bruce this week.
Area Manager Jason Hoffman says the foundation’s Big Bike for Stroke event is making its local appearances.
Hoffman says teams made up of local residents and businesses will be pedalling the 30-seat bike through four communities.
The Grey Bruce foundation chapter is aiming to raise 75-thousand dollars through the event this year and Hoffman says they’re about halfway there.
Each rider had to raise 50 dollars in pledges to get a seat on the bike, while online donations are also being accepted at www.bigbike.ca
The bike tours across Canada and the nationwide goal is 7 million dollars for heart and stroke research.
Hoffman says while money raised in Grey Bruce will be pooled provincially, the donations do make it back to our communities.
He points to the 61 defibrillators purchased for Grey and Bruce Counties over the past 2 years.
Hoffman says the Heart and Stroke Foundation likes events that keep people active and this definitely fits the bill.
He adds the event has been coming to our region for over 15 years and is one of the Foundation’s most successful fundraisers.
The Big Bike for Stroke will be taken for a spin near the Wiarton train station tonight.
Wednesday it will be out near the Meaford harbour, Friday in west side Owen Sound, and Saturday in downtown Walkerton.
Coming up on June 8th, the bike will make an appearance in downtown Kincardine.
It’s already visited Port Elgin, Hanover, Markdale, and Dundalk earlier this month.
