A senior Liberal MP won’t say if his party plans to pull the plug this spring on the Harper government and send Canadians to the polls.
Wayne Easter says the Liberals have the Conservatives on probation and want to make sure they are delivering results.
He says if they don’t see results being delivered or if the Conservatives are “playing games,” then they’ll introduce a confidence motion and bring the government down.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff recently suggested an election could come sooner than later, but Easter says all that Ignatieff wants to do is make sure that the party is prepared for a campaign.
The PEI Member of Parliament doesn’t believe Canadian voters want an election right now.
Easter says one of the concerns the Liberals have about the recent Conservative economic stimulus measures is that it doesn’t support scientific research enough.
Easter says the Harper government is cutting research funding, sending scientists to the US instead.
He says researchers are stimulating the American economy when they could have stayed here to do it.
Easter says the Harper government doesn’t support research and development but the Obama administration does.
Easter was in Chesley recently to meet with local agriculture industry leaders and Liberal supporters.
