What some consider a Hanover eyesore may soon become a distant memory.
The fate of an old main street building is now in the town’s hands.
Hanover is now the proud owner of the abandoned run down Queen’s Hotel located on the corner of 7th Ave and 10th Street.
The town acquired the building at a recent tax sale auction in which there were no bidders for the property.
Chief Building Official Don Tedford says there is 97 thousand dollars in outstanding property taxes on the building.
Of this 97 thousand dollars, 77 thousand is the town’s portion, 10 thousand is the County’s, 9 thousand is the education portion and the remaining 800 dollars is the DIA’s portion.
Tedford says the town is now investigating how much it will cost to have the building demolished.
The building has been vacant for ten years now and doesn’t have any water or hydro services.
And while it is structurally sound Tedford doubts it will be worth saving due to the mould and water damage inside it.
Hanover has received numerous complaints over the years about the rundown building, it’s only now that the town can finally do something about it.
