Owen Sound Police are really pounding the pavement.
The annual Owen Sound Law Enforcement Torch Run starts at 11 AM this morning.
Local police and corrections officers will be joined by students from OSCVI and West Hill, as well as local Special Olympics athletes.
Sergeant Ted Kitto says about 60 participants are meeting up at OSCVI, and the group will run north along 16th Avenue East to Boston Pizza.
Kitto says drivers should be aware of delays on 16th Avenue East between 11 and noon – the road will not be closed, but a police escort will surround the runners.
Police will also be directing traffic at affected intersections and disruptions are expected to be no longer than 15 minutes.
Kitto says money raised goes toward the coaching and training costs for local athletes, as they look to attend the summer games in Windsor.
Owen Sound Police Services are also holding two more fundraisers for Special Olympics Ontario this month.
Voluntary ‘mall tolls’ will be collected at Wal-Mart and the Beer Store this Saturday.
And on Monday May 25th, officers will serve diners at Boston Pizza.
Kitto says Owen Sound Police Services is hoping to raise a total of 15-thousand dollars this year.
