Some good economic news on the local scene today.
Hobart Food Equipment in Owen Sound has called back a number of employees who were laid off in early February.
Plant Manager Gary Duench says they’ve recently called back 35 employees from the 49 they let go temporarily.
The workers were supposed to be off for 13 weeks — but Duench says they were able to get them back working sooner.
He says sales were off about 35 percent during the layoff and now they’re off about 20 percent but he’s hoping things will be steady through the end of the year.
Duench says there are no plans to call back the remaining 14 workers.
