The finishing touches have been put on an application by Georgian Bluffs to get infrastructure money for a biodiesel project.
The 2.7 million dollar “sludge-to-energy” project is being supported by the township of Chatsworth.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot says the goal is to get 2/3rds funding from the province and Federal governments, making it more affordable for the community.
Biodigesters are fed sludge from septic tanks to produce methane gas which is used to produce electricity.
The hydro can be used to power diesel generators or can be sold to Hydro One on the grid system.
Barfoot says the unit would be located at the sewage lagoon.
Georgian Bluffs has the most septic systems in Grey County, and the municipality is concerned the province will move to ban the spreading of sewage onto farm lands in the near future.
This biodiesel project would keep Georgian Bluffs ahead of the game on sewage.
