Collingwood council will be making a few decisions tonight that could affect everyone in town.
Council is being asked to receive a staff report and vote on whether to continue with the current ‘at large’ system or go to a ward system for the 2010 municipal election.
It could be a fiery debate.
Mayor Chris Carrier has been in favour of keeping things the way they are because he says a ward system would allow for more back room dealings.
Councillor Ian Chadwick has said he feels the current process allowed the results in 2006 to be manipulated by a special interest group to get its selected candidates elected, so he prefers going to a ward system.
On a less controversial note, council will be considering free Colltrans bus service for two hours on May 30th for the “Catch the Spirit” with council program to boost ridership.
Colltrans also wants to start offering riders a monthly bus pass for 30 dollars a month.
And singer Drew Wright will pay a visit to update council on his trip to the town’s sister city Zihuatanejo, Mexico for the International Guitar Festival.
Wright went to Mexico as Collingwood’s Good Will Ambassador.
