Wasaga Beach is going to have two different public transit routes.
The Committee of the Whole is recommending to Town Council to implement a 6 month trial of a new 2 route system.
The town won’t be getting a new bus for the 2nd route though.
The town’s old bus would be servicing the second route.
The original motion was to buy a new bus to service the new route, but Mayor Cal Patterson said he wouldn’t support purchasing a new bus, which would have cost council 120 thousand dollars.
The estimated cost of a second transit route in Wasaga is 14 thousand dollars per month.
Doug Harrison is the President of Georgian Coach Lines, which runs the transit system in Wasaga Beach.
He says the bus system grew faster in Wasaga Beach than anyone expected.
Harrison says the proposed routes will cover 45th Street to Highway 26, and River Road East to the Tiny Township boundary.
The Committee of the Whole also advised the CAO to sit down with the bus line to look at the routes again, before the 6 month trial starts.
Harrison says having 2 routes means a round trip would only take 1 hour as opposed to 2 hours.
He says 90 percent of their riders are going to the Stonebridge Plaza, or the Superstore, so they have to make the routes work around those 2 locations.
