An overnight fire in Southampton has claimed one life.
Saugeen shores police and the fire department were called to a home on Huron street north about 12:45 this morning.
Police officers were only seconds from the scene when the call came in, but the house was full of thick smoke when they arrived.
The heavy smoke prevented police from entering the house.
Saugeen shores firefighters then arrived, and the woman was found dead inside the home.
No name has been released and the investigation continues.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Eagleson says one police officer suffered from minor smoke inhalation and was treated and released from Southampton Hospital.
There were no other injuries.
Eagleson says the fire itself was contained to one room and crews worked quickly to extinguish it.
