A day of barbecues at M & M meat shops across Canada equals 2.1-million-dollars.
That’s what organizers of this Saturday’s hope will be raised from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, at 482 locations across the country.
Franchise owner in Saugeen Shores and Owen Sound James Lorenz says the event, which goes on most of the day, will go on rain or shine.
Lorenz says in Port Elgin, they hope to raise around $3,500 just from burger and hot dog sales alone.
He says a burger or a hot dog, a bag of chips and a drink can be purchased for a minimum donation of $2.50.
The money will go the foundation in aid of research for a cause and a cure for the inflammatory bowel disease.
In Wasaga Beach and Collingwood today — the two area M and M Meats franchises are hosting a BBQ as well.
Franchisee Garrett Reid notes last year the Wasaga store raised over 62 hundred dollars and the two stores combined brought in over 15 thousand.
He adds this year’s corporate total is 2.1 million dollars which would bring the total to date to 18 million.
The BBQ is on Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine.
New this year is a raffle table. Tickets are two dollars or 3 for 5 dollars.
The is the 21st annual charity BBQ day and since the beginning almost 17-million dollars has gone into research of the disease.
Lorenz says there are over 200,000 sufferers of Crohn’s and Colitis disease across Canada.
It’s an inflammatory bowel disese with very few treatment options available so more research is needed.
Many of Bayshore Broadcasting’s radio personalities will be on duty this Saturday supporting the cause.
