Local MPP Bill Murdoch is collecting names on 2 petitions, one on the provinces’ Energy Bill 150 and the other on the harmonizing of the PST and GST.
The Conservative member of the Legislature for Bruce Grey Owen Sound, claims the Tories have commissioned a study on the Liberal energy bill which shows a dramatic increase in Hydro rates.
The London Economics report questions where the province is going to create the thousands of jobs, that the government bill promises.
Dalton McGuinty’s government says the Green Energy act, bill 150, will generate some 50 thousand jobs, which the study disputes.
At the same time, it predicts electricity rates will jump by 12 hundred dollars a year for the average homeowner.
Murdoch says the Opposition has called on the Liberal government to hold off on approving the bill until some questions are answered, but he says the Act is now going to 3rd reading in the legislature.
Meanwhile, Murdoch is also collecting names from those opposed to the HST, or the harmonizing of the provincial sales tax with the GST.
The HST will increase the cost of numerous goods and services in Ontario, but it doesn’t go into effect until July of next year (2010).
So far, the MPP has collected over one thousand names on the HST petition and Murdoch says anyone can pick up a petition at his office and help fill it out.
