Noise is a hot topic in Saugeen Shores these days.
Four residents of Highland Street in Port Elgin recently appeared before council to voice their concerns about the noise from a sewer construction project underway in their neighbourhood.
The residents are also concerned about how the project is affecting access to their properties and over how much dust it is causing.
Mayor Mike Smith says he understands the inconvenience the residents are facing.
He says municipal staff are working to keep disruption to a minimum and get the project done fairly quickly.
The residents concerns come just as the municipality is reviewing its noise by-law.
A series of public consultations have been taking place.
Councillor Luke Charbonneau says there is some conflict between residential and commercial interests, but he believes there is a willingness to compromise.
Charbonneau says by-laws aren’t always the best solution for problems and he thinks getting neighbours together to talk about the issue could be a better way.
Police Chief Dan Rivett is gathering information from the community on noise and will make recommendations to council regarding any changes to the by-law.
