Not a lot of support for Owen Sound Council’s decision to move to bi-weekly garbage collection in early July.
Callers to Bayshore Broadcasting’s Open Line on 560 CFOS are not pleased with the move saying it will cause all sorts of problems.
Several callers are concerned about the smell of the trash after sitting out during the summer months for two weeks before being picked up.
Other callers fear with the trash sitting around for two weeks, it will attract all sorts of animals like raccoons, skunks or rats and will become a health issue.
Several callers feel the city should delay the move until the fall, and then use the winter months to plan and implement a wet garbage pick up system for next spring.
In total 20 callers were opposed to the implementing of the bi weekly garbage collection.
A total of six callers were in support of bi weekly garbage collection saying they are already doing that as they don’t generate all that much trash.
As for the smell issue, they say they put meat scraps and grease in the freezer until its time to put in in the trash.
