A Port Elgin landmark has won the Business of the Year Award from the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce.
Ralph’s Hi-Way Shopette is now in it’s 39th year of business on Goderich Street.
Cathy McNamara says her father Ralph Hornsby started the business when the family moved to Port Elgin in 1970.
McNamara says her brother Dave is also involved in the business.
McNamara says the store’s wide selection of food and gift products and their hours have made them a place local residents can rely on.
The store has a generator so it never closes during a power outage and is open 365 days a year, including Christmas Day.
McNamara says 12 people generally work at the store but that number goes up during the summer tourist season.
She says over the past 39 years, two generations of hers and other local families have worked at Ralph’s.
McNamara is thankful for Ralphs being nominated and considered for the award.
