It will be next year before the shovel hits the ground on the 10th Street East extension in Owen Sound.
City manager Jim Harrold says the project remains on the front burner, with an Environmental Assessment to be held this year along with planning and engineering work.
Harrold says that means major construction will get underway in 2010.
The 400 metre extension would link 10th street east to 16th Avenue East, providing an alternate route to the hospital.
Right now, 10th Street East ends a few blocks past the Tim Hortons outlet, and this new extension will likely reduce traffic near the Heritage Place Mall.
The new road would run behind OSCVI and Georgian College.
Harrold says the work is worth about 1.3 million dollars.
He notes most of the money would come from the Bluewater District School Board thru a previous agreement.
