New drinking and driving laws in Ontario… have landed 4 area drivers in hot water in the past 2 days.
The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP suspended the drivers licenses of the 4 drivers… after they were found to have a blood alcohol content of over .05
Those new Ontario regulations allow a police officer to immediately suspend the licence of any driver when he or she provides a sample that registers in the warn range.
New suspensions are recorded and tracked by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
A first suspension is for 3 days, seven days for a second incident and 30 days for the third and subsequent incidents within a five year period.
The new legislation does not affect criminal code impaired charges, and only apply when a person is in the warn range of .05 to .08 blood alcohol concentration.
