Jubilee Park in Southampton could be getting a major face-lift.
In the process it could become Saugeen Shores’ first fully accessible park and playground area.
Saugeen Shores manager of Culture and Recreation Jayne Jagelewski says they park would be accessible to everyone but would allow those in wheelchairs and with challenges to enjoy the facility like everyone else.
Jagelewski says the cost is about 250 thousand dollars and the town is providing 75 thousand if the group can fund-raise the rest.
She says the little used Jubilee Park by the Southampton water tower would then become a destination point for the county.
She says families now travel great distances to Owen Sound which is the nearest accessible park and play area in the region.
Jagelewski says she hopes Southampton’s Jubilee Park will provide the exact kind of service as well.
Besides the large playground structure for all to use, there will be flower gardens, pathways and lunch and washroom facilities that will all be wheelchair accessible.
Jagelewski hopes to have the park and the playground structure open by next Spring.
