Hanover is bustling with activity this weekend as the town pays its final tribute to the 46 year old Coliseum.
‘The Last Blast in the Barn’ celebration begins tonight with pre-teen and a teen dance as well as retro roller skating for all ages.
Saturday will kick off with a Firemen’s Breakfast, followed by youth and adult road hockey challenges, various children’s activities, guitar hero and karaoke contests, seniors games and a loonie swim.
The evening will wrap up with a chicken barbeque dinner, entertainment by Yuk Yuks and a dance.
And for those who survive Saturday’s festivities they can participate in the final farewell golf swing on Sunday at Buck’s Crossing Golf Course.
Organizer Lori Pegelo says tickets for the events are almost all sold out.
Pegelo says so many people want to be part of history — as this is the last event that will be held at the arena which is scheduled for demolition in late June.
The 46 year old coliseum will be replaced with a 10.5 million dollar Hanover Regional Recreation Complex which will be built right on site of the old arena.
The new Complex will feature an NHL sized hockey rink, and indoor walking track and auditorium.
The new Complex should be complete by August of 2010.
