A program offered by Keystone Child, Youth and Family Services and the Bluewater District School Board in Saugeen Shores is changing locations.
The Community Day Treatment Classroom for youth aged 13 to 17 with mental health challenges now operates at G-C Huston School in Southampton.
Starting in September, it will be at Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin.
Superintendent of Student Services Lori Wilder says Port Elgin is a transportation hub for the school board and Southampton is not.
She says they would like to have eight students in the class but transportation issues at G-C Huston didn’t make that possible.
Wilder notes the move to Port Elgin will allow the class to be filled in September.
Wilder says the secondary school setting is also more appropriate for the students who use the program.
She says the class will still operate separately from the rest of the school and will use a portable on the Saugeen District property.
Wilder says that will provide more opportunities that are beneficial to students.
Keystone believes the new location will help it’s efforts to serve more children in communities along the Lake Huron shore.
