It’s just a matter of time.
Our Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn says there are no confirmed cases of swine flu in Bruce and Grey counties but there have been suspicions.
Doctor Lynn tells Bayshore Broadcasting News tests are being conducted but they have no confirming results as yet.
She says on average 60 thousand return home from vacationing in Mexico in April so it’s a pretty good chance that the disease will show up in this province and in this region.
There are now four confirmed cases of swine flu in Ontario.
Doctor Lynn says if you have swine flu symptoms, health authorities would like you get “swabbed” and then stay home until you’re over the illness.
She says the symptoms include regular flu symptoms such as coughing, diarrhea and fever.
Lynn also suggests giving up the practice of shaking hands for the foreseeable future.
She says hand-shaking is good way of spreading the germ which can also be spread through coughing and sneezing.
Lynn says during the SARS outbreak, people stopped shaking hands and just gently bowing to acknowledge the person.
She says it might be a good idea to resurrect the idea again.
