The Hanover and District Hospital is teaming up with Grey Bruce Health Services in a pilot project involving patients requiring urgent mental health services.
The project will involve the use of videoconferencing.
When a patient comes into the Hanover Emergency Department with mental health issues — they will now be able to talk with a case worker via videoconferencing before they ever leave the hospital.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Reta Sproule says the goal is to provide patients with more timely care to the appropriate services.
The pilot project will begin as soon as the videoconferencing equipment to arrives within a month.
Sproule calls videoconferencing a wonderful medical tool.
She says it’s the Hospital’s goal to use videoconferencing as much as possible — so patients can remain in Hanover and access services from other hospitals such as Owen Sound, London or Toronto.
Sproule says the Mental Health Emergency Pilot project is a good way for the Hospital to take advantage of this new technology.
