A great start to the 18th annual Georgian Sound Festival in Thornbury and Clarksburg.
Hundreds of people took part in Jazzmania last night where ten bands played in ten different venues.
The focus is on Big Bands today — which is how the community festival started with a one day event before it grew to three days.
There is a matinee show at 1 PM and an evening show at 7:30 at the Beaver Valley Community Centre.
The host Georgian Sound band will perform as well as the Lighthouse Swing Band from Port Elgin and the Toronto All Star Big Band.
Jazz Legend Peter Appleyard will also perform with the Toronto All Star Big Band.
Appleyard will then return and play with his own band during the Sunday Jazz Brunch at 10:30 AM at the Beaver Valley Community Centre.
The Festival ends with Gospelfest at Grace United Church at 2 PM.
One of the organizers David Watson says this year’s Festival features top international talent and great music.
Another organizer Tony Bauer says this Festival is unique because it combines jazz, big band and gospel music.
Bauer also calls it a community festival because the money raised goes to the Rotary Club to pay for important community projects.
