Five Owen Sound teens — including two who were in the trunk of a car — are recovering from injuries after a two vehicle crash.
A red four door Honda collided with another vehicle at 8th Street and 9th Avenue East over the noon hour on Tuesday.
Police say there were six people in the Honda — four inside the car and two in the trunk — and they were on their way back to OSCVI after a fast food lunch.
The 16 and 17 year old males in the trunk escaped the crash with scrapes and lacerations — but one may have internal injuries.
Three other people in the car — including the driver — suffered minor injuries.
Inspector Stephen MacKinnon says the teens are lucky they were not seriously injured.
MacKinnon says it’s a terrible risk for anyone to take to ride in a trunk.
The 16 year old female driver of the Honda has been charged with making an unsafe turn and having more passengers than seatbelts in the vehicle.
The two male teens in the trunk have also been charged with not wearing a seatbelt.
Each charge carries a fine of 110 dollars.
MacKinnon feels it is a cheap lesson for the high school students and other people who are thinking about doing the same thing.
